Holy Faith Convent, Glasnevin, Dublin 9
The Margaret Aylward Centre was opened in 2014 and is located on the grounds of the Holy Faith Order at its convent in Glasnevin. The centre is used as a gathering space for groups in the local community as well as a place for ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue. Designed by MOLA Architecture, it floats above the stunning green lawn adjacent to the protected structure of Glasnevin House and overlooks the Botanic Gardens and Tolka River to the south. The plan is based on a series of axial circulation routes which wrap around a theatre, a sacred space, a multi-purpose space and a series of small office-size rooms, all linked and interlocked with ramps and steps. The Centre sits as a pavilion within its historical setting, while the façade is clad in opaque glass panels to mirror the reflections of trees, sky, lawn and convent buildings all around.
